Hang them up:

Quite naturally the most ideal way to store a corset is to hang it up in your wardrobe. But do not hang it up just like any other piece of clothing. Hand them up by folding them in half, where the inner lining is facing outside. Use the laces of the corset to hang it up. Avoid using metal hangers as they tend to rust. Use plastic hangers instead. Lay them flat:

This is considered to be the most ideal way to store a closet. After you have worn the corset, let it air out for a little while. This helps the corset regain its shape. Then lay it flat on a surface. Make sure you don’t pile clothes on top of a corset which has been laid down flat on the board of your wardrobe. You can store one corset on top of another. But again not so much that the lower corsets start to bend and lose their shape because of the weight on top of them.

Roll them up:

Don’t try this unless you have read or seen how to do it somewhere. Rolling corsets are the traditional way to store them.  Roll the corset and use the laces to tie them up in a knot. The bi-directional lacing method is ideal for most corsets. The method is called bi-directional, because the laces are woven from two directions to meet at the waist level of the corset. Lacing a corset is actually very simple. It is quite like lacing your shoes, except that the criss cross pattern never begins from the top of the corset. 1.       Begin from the top of the corset. Loop the lace from behind in the two grommets of the corset.

2.       While you are looping the lace from the front of the grommet on one side to front of the grommet on the other side, return to the grommet on the first side, by looping the lace in from the back of the grommet.

3.       Maintain this back to front pattern of lacing, till you reach the waist of the corset. Remember at no point should the lace loop from the front to the back

5.       Once you reach the waist level, leave enough space on the lace to create the ‘pull loop’ at the waist

6.       Repeat making X patterns in the laces with the remaining grommets on the corset till you reach the bottom of the corset

7.       Remember to always weave a new cross using the back to front pattern

8.       Once you reach the end of the corset knot up the loose ends of the lace. This knot should be on the inside of the corset so that it does not show through

9.       Using the ‘pull loop’ at the waist tighten the corset as much as you want

10.   Tie the pull loop in an elegant knot at the waist to maintain the tightness of the corset.

Fully Boned Corsets

Steel bones are of two varieties, the flat steel boning and the boning where the steel is spiral. Spiral boning is somewhat flat but it is thicker than the flat boning.
